Is Tomahawk Halal?

All of the tomahawk steaks included in this category are halal. To be halal, the butchering and rearing process must adhere to Islamic law. We raise our halal cattle on a completely natural diet, and ensure they are alive and healthy at the time of slaughter. The halal meat we stock at Tom Hixson is 100% traceable with a complete halal certification. What is a Tomahawk Steak?

Halal tomahawk steak is from the same area as your typical beef ribeye (cut from the fore-rib), however it must meet exact specifications to be counted as a tomahawk steak. These specifications state that the steak must have at least five inches of bone still intact, which is left in during the cooking process for the impressive dining experience.

How Do You Cook a Halal Tomahawk Steak?

Tomahawk steaks can be cooked on the grill or on the stovetop, depending on what you find easiest. For both of these methods, you’ll first need to prepare your steak by bringing the cut to room temperature and patting dry with a paper towel before seasoning with salt and pepper.

If you are grilling your steak on the BBQ, cook over high, direct heat for five minutes on each side until the steak is a golden colour all over. Move to indirect heat and cook for a further ten-fifteen minutes, or until the steak is cooked to your desired doneness. Measure with a Tom Hixson Meat Thermometer for accuracy.

For those of you who prefer to cook indoors, follow this method: Place your steak in a pan on high heat with oil and cook on both sides until a golden crust forms. Next, place your steak into an oven at 110°C and slow cook for around one hour, or until the steak is cooked to your liking.

It is important that you let your halal tomahawk steaks rest before slicing and serving, as this gives the steak time to absorb all of the flavourful juices produced during the cooking process. Serve your steak alongside chunky cut chips sprinkled with flakey sea salt, and pan-fried fresh vegetables.
